The Confederation of Canada could not have happened without the influences of the debates in its time of development. Of the many smaller meetings and legislature debates that were very influential in the confederation of Canada, there were three conferences that really paved the way for confederation. The first was the Charlottetown Conference: The Maritime conferences wanted a larger union. Although, once the word was out that this conference would be held, leaders of the United Province of Canada (consisting of Canada East and Canada West) started to hatch plans to use the conference to fuel a much, larger idea.
